Alexander Chocolate is a Salisbury based ethical chocolate company that produces luxury, ‘bean-to-bar’ chocolate products and is one of the few companies producing chocolate from scratch in the UK.

Over 500,000 people in the UK have epilepsy. That’s about one in every 100 people. But how does epilepsy affect workers and what can businesses do to support epileptic employees?

We spoke to Lucy Wyatt about her personal experience of epilepsy, how it affects her work and the struggles she’s faced in the workplace due to her condition.

Lucy was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic epilepsy at the age of 12 and suffers two types of seizures; absence seizures and myoclonic jerks. The dictionary definition of community is “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common,” and “the condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common.” At work, we share the fact that we work in the same place as our colleagues and will typically spend much of our time together. Groups of friends develop their own communities and, definitively, any group we are part of acts as a type of community. Lack of understanding, ignorance and a refusal to learn about diverse groups and cultures can breed prejudice. If you don’t understand something it can incite fear and in turn that fear can lead to negative discrimination.
